About ZGF

Empowering civil society. Strengthening governance. Building a just Zambia.

Who We Are

The Zambian Governance Foundation (ZGF) supports local civil society organizations to deliver impactful solutions within their communities. We believe in local leadership, citizen participation, and development that is inclusive and sustainable.

Since our founding in 2009, ZGF has evolved into a key enabler for Zambia's civil society. Through capacity development, grant-making, and learning platforms, we've partnered with over 300 organizations to advance rights-based, citizen-led development across the country.

Our Mission

To empower civil society organizations with funding, knowledge, and platforms that amplify citizen voices and foster democratic governance in Zambia.

Our Vision

A Zambia where all citizens are actively engaged in shaping a fair, just, and equitable society.

Our Core Values

Participation

We promote inclusive civic engagement and amplify marginalized voices. We believe that meaningful participation of all citizens, especially those who are often excluded, is essential for democratic governance and sustainable development.

Partnership

We value strong, respectful collaborations with local CSOs and stakeholders. Our approach is built on mutual respect, shared learning, and collective action towards common goals.

Transparency

We uphold accountability and integrity in all our operations. We are committed to open communication, responsible stewardship of resources, and transparent reporting of our activities and impact.

Innovation

We embrace new approaches that advance sustainable development goals. We encourage creative solutions, adaptive learning, and the use of technology to enhance our effectiveness and reach.

Our Approach

Capacity Building

We strengthen the organizational capacity of civil society organizations through training, technical assistance, and mentoring. Our programs focus on governance, financial management, strategic planning, and program implementation.

Grant Making

We provide financial support to civil society organizations implementing community-driven projects. Our grants support initiatives in governance, human rights, social accountability, and community development.

Learning and Knowledge Sharing

We facilitate learning platforms where civil society organizations can share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned. We also conduct research and produce knowledge products to inform policy and practice.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement

We support civil society organizations in their advocacy efforts and facilitate their engagement with government and other stakeholders on policy issues affecting their communities.
