George
George community is located in Lusaka West, Matero constituency, a high-density peri-urban settlement. George is one of the largest unplanned settlements in Lusaka city with over 70,000 residents according to the 2010 census. The community faces several challenges, such as a high rate of unemployment among residents, high crime rates and high poverty levels. Other challenges include poor sanitation, environmental degradation, and relatively high household rentals.
Collaboration with ZGF: ZGF in collaboration with Manja-Athu Multipurpose Cooperative has set up a revolving fund project through which community members in saving groups can access soft loans and use their savings as collateral. The revolving fund currently has members from four saving groups which have been set up using the SaveNet approach.
